Solar Power to Charge the Battery
Solar power is an alternative option for charging your gate opener battery
if you do not have access to AC power within 1,000 feet of your gate. Each
installation is unique and the effectiveness of solar power will vary for
each installation.
Your geographic location, type of gate, and frequency of use will help you
determine if a solar panel is right for you. Multiple solar panels may be
connected to the gate opener control box, providing greater cycle capacity.
The Zareba Solar Powered Battery Charger (GSP5 or GSP10) is designed to provide optimum
charge to the battery. The rugged solar panel is built to last,
designed for harsh weather. The kit includes mounting pipe, mounting hardware,
8-feet of low voltage wire and installation instructions.
Solar Panel Map Instructions:
- Determine your expected number of open/close cycles per day.
- Use the appropriate Zone Table for your gate location and gate type (single/double).
- Find the row that meets your expected number of daily open/close cycles to determine the solar panel you need (5, 10, or 20* watt).
NOTE: The numbers in the Zone Tables are based on average solar production. It is important to allow for seasonal and weather-related decreases in solar production, which may affect performance by as much as 30%. Solar panels MUST face south and be in direct sunlight.
