Who certifies the safety of the Zareba Automatic Gate Opener?
The Zareba Automatic Gate Opener is for use on vehicular fence gates only. The product meets or exceeds the requirements of UL 325, the standard that regulates gate opener safety, as established and made effective March 14, 2003 by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. (UL).

The UL 325 standard is used by nationally recognized testing laboratories to verify gate opener product safety. The Engineering Test Laboratories (ETL) mark on the Zareba Automatic Gate Opener assures users that the product meets or exceeds the UL 325 standard.

What type of gates can the opener be used on?
The Zareba Automatic Gate Opener is intended for use with vehicular swing gates. The gates can be vinyl, chain link, metal, or wood gates (solid wood gates are not recommended as wind resistance may be an issue). The opener can be used in Class I, II, III and IV applications, including residential/single family dwelling or parking areas, commercial buildings or multi-family dwellings, industrial or factory loading dock areas, and restricted access or guarded industrial locations.

What types of alarms and warnings are available with the Zareba Automatic Gate Opener?
The Zareba Automatic Gate Opener is designed to stop and reverse direction within two seconds of sensing an obstruction. In addition the opener sounds an audible alarm if the unit incurs an obstruction twice while opening or closing. You may also choose to have the gate opener sound an alarm every time it starts moving.

What additional safety devices are available?
Zareba Systems recommends using additional safety devices to assure gate sensitivity. Safety devices such as contact sensors (safety edge) or non-contact sensors (photoelectric) may be connected into the control box.

Contact sensors are located on the edges of the gate and are also referred to as "safety edges." Activating a properly installed contact sensor while the gate is moving causes the gate to stop and reverse within two seconds.

Non-contact sensors (photoelectric beams) enhance safety by monitoring the path of the safety beam when the gate is closing. An obstruction in the path of the safety beam reverses the gate to the fully open position.
